I experience genuine joy when riding trains. There is something inherently fascinating about the complex, interconnected physical networks that keep a city moving. That same fascination drives my work under the hood of the PRESTO electronic payment system. As an Enterprise Architect at Metrolinx, my job is to take the sprawling, complex digital infrastructure that powers those rides and ensure it scales safely, efficiently, and logically.
Here is a deeper look into the architecture, governance, and strategy work I do to keep the system moving forward.
When you are dealing with an electronic payment system utilized by millions of riders, you cannot afford to build on a shaky foundation. A major part of my role involves designing and maintaining the PRESTO Enterprise Architecture Framework. By implementing enterprise architecture best practices and tailoring the TOGAF framework to our specific organizational needs, I established the standards and reference architectures that guide our technology decisions.
My focus is always on translating high-level business capabilities into practical technology solutions. It is about anticipating future business needs and emerging trends to ensure that our IT operations remain resilient, scalable, and fully aligned with long-term objectives.
You cannot optimize what you cannot see. To get a clear picture of our technical debt and integration points, I partnered with functional teams to build and maintain comprehensive inventories spanning our business capabilities, data, processes, and technology infrastructure. This initiative established a single source of truth for the entire organization.
I paired this foundational mapping with active development, building interactive Power BI dashboards that extract and transform operational data to give leadership real-time visibility. This drive for clarity also extended to our software assets, where I designed a rigorous governance framework for Software Asset Management to track, audit, and rectify licensing data.
Architecture is not just about drawing diagrams; it is about rigorous validation. I regularly review solution architectures to ensure they comply with enterprise policies and industry standards, partnering closely with technical architects to deliver end-to-end artifacts.
To ensure we are investing in the right tools, I conduct continuous market scans to evaluate regulatory requirements, risk factors, and emerging technologies. By running detailed cost-benefit analyses, I help strengthen business cases and guide massive investment decisions—including the procurement and sustainment of our internal Enterprise Architecture tooling. Throughout all of this, my goal is to champion innovation, constantly analyzing and redesigning processes to close operational gaps and drive measurable improvements.
In May 2026, I took on expanded leadership responsibilities when I was appointed Interim Manager of Enterprise Architecture & Integration.
This transition has been an incredible opportunity to broaden my scope. Alongside the deep technical architecture work, I now lead complex problem resolution across our business, data, application, and security domains. Managing sprint prioritization across multiple engineering workstreams via Jira allows me to balance long-term architectural strategy with the tactical delivery of high-quality data integration features. It is a challenging, fast-paced environment, but getting to actively shape the future of a transit network I use and love every day makes it entirely worth it.
